Pittsburgh, Pa.- The Juniata men's soccer team struck three times in the second half to earn the victory on the road at Chatham University, 4-1, Wednesday evening at UPMC Graham Field.
Nathan Weick, Shawn Tanaka, Jayden Gaynor and Jalen Holliday each had a goal, while Gavin Rauhut provided an assist. Maxwell Mattioni made one save in goal.
In the 21st minute, Weick let a ball go over him as he turned, took a touch near the 18 and blasted a shot past the keeper low at the near post to make it 1-0.
Seven minutes later, the Cougars had the ball in the back of the JC net to tie things at one.
The teams went into the halftime break tied at 1-1, with Juniata holding a 14-7 advantage on in shots in the back and forth first half.
Three minutes into the second half, Juniata had the ball deep in the Chatham box but couldn't get a shot off, until Tanaka quickly spun and blasted a shot into the roof of the net to give Juniata the lead back.
In the 55th minute, Rauhut crossed the ball from the left wing into the box and Gaynor ran on to the low cross, smashing it into the net to make it 3-1.
In the final minute of the game, Holliday got the ball on the right wing, let the pass roll through his legs and beating his defender to the ball. He took a touch near the six and rifled the ball into the far side netting to make it 4-1.
Juniata held a 26-8 advantage in shots and a 8-3 one in corner kicks.
The Eagles return to action at home this Saturday at home against Hood College at 7:00pm.
