HUNTINGDON, Pa.- The Juniata women's lacrosse team lost their season opener to visiting Stevenson University, 18-3, Saturday afternoon at Gibbel Stadium.
Elayna Stubbe tallied two goals and a draw control, while Ella McGlaughlin had a goal, two ground balls, and three draw controls. Skyler Stevens added an assist, while Devyn Mauger contributed three draw controls, two caused turnovers, and two ground balls. Kambria Hoyt totaled two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Caoilinn Heatley made six saves in goal, while Mikayla Bodley and Frankie Ditsky each made five saves.
The Mustangs controlled the opening quarter as they outscored the Eagles 5-0 in the opening frame.
Stevenson added four more in the second before Stevens found Stubbe to open the scoring for the Eagles. The teams would exchange goals once more before the half ended, as Stubbe netted a free position shot, but the Mustangs had the final say as they led 11-2 at the half.
Stevenson scored four in the third to increase their lead to 13. McGlaughlin got past several Mustang defenders before firing a shot past the keeper to make it 15-3. Stevenson tallied three more to complete the scoring.
Juniata will return to action next Wednesday as they travel to face King's at 5:00.
